She's Gotta Have It

Key Art: Concept & Creative Direction and Copywriting

AV: Narrative Direction and Scripting

In Season Two of She’s Gotta Have It, Spike Lee and his wife, Tonya Lewis Lee brought us Nola Darling in love, then lost in love as she struggles to stay true to herself while simultaneously tasked with glowing up as a Brooklyn-based artist. This campaign focuses on the beauty and complexity of Nola finding her own, stripped of her lovers in a gut-wrenching journey of growth, self-actualization, and self-acceptance.

In addition to the Art + AV, the social leg of this campaign was created for Black Twitter users, Spike Lee fans, and Black feminists. Centered around Nola’s Instagram account as an expressive art extension from her character’s perspective, we created additional video pieces that latter up to the ethos of this title including a Know Your Roots series that documents the rich history of Martha’s Vineyard & Fort Greene (two locations featured this season), as well as spotlighting the Puerto Rican pride & resilience coming off the heels of Hurricane Maria in 2017 with Anthony Ramos and Fat Joe (see below) and a conversation between the female actresses on being Black in Hollywood (see below.)
